The Way of the Traumatic Wound with Robert Grant

The Way of the Traumatic Wound with Robert Grant, PhD

About the Presentation

Traumatic events are rarely considered to be a way of discovering the socially constructed nature of self and world, as well as the Deeper Self and Spirit. This talk will look beyond post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and symptom clusters to the existential, ontological, and transpersonal revelations that are potentially present in every traumatic event. Those in search of the transcendent can stop whenever the threat of ego dissolution is too great; whereas victims of trauma must either work the territories exposed by such an event all the way to the transcendent, or be destroyed by them.

About the Presenter

Robert Grant, PhD, is a psychologist who specializes in the area of spirituality in and through the effects and ramifications of traumatic experience. He is the author of "The Way of the Wound (A Spirituality of Trauma and Transformation)," "Complicated Trauma (A Practitioner’s Manual)," and "The Challenge of Forgiveness (As Faced by Victims of Betrayal and Abuse)," as well as several other publications.

Integral Counseling Psychology Master's Program

The Integral Counseling Psychology (ICP) program is one of five distinct master's in counseling psychology programs at CIIS. ICP was the first East-West, transpersonal psychology graduate program in the world. Transpersonal psychology is a framework in which Western schools of psychology are synthesized with the world's spiritual traditions. We view psychological healing and growth within the larger context of spiritual unfolding.
