The world-wide drama therapy and applied theatre community continues to grow in depth and breadth and we've both been thrilled to be a part of it. Throughout this past year, each of us worked in countries as varied as Mexico, Switzerland, Germany, Israel, Greece, Japan, China, Lebanon, Canada, and were exposed to different cultures, from Native Americans to Hassidic Jews. We spoke, and Skyped, and wrote to each other, from the four corners of the world, until we found the right focus for this summer's intensive: The need for innovation and renewal, the opportunity to play with creative tools in an explorative and experimental fashion, seemed to be a shared longing for theatre practitioners and psychotherapists alike, everywhere we went.

After last year's successful launching of our project "Restoring the Bonds with our Ancestors through Drama Therapy and Creative Ritual," we were committed to repeat the venture and to establish a tradition of summer intensives in Berkeley. We sharpened and enhanced our vision for this year even more when we recently worked together in a Drama Therapy Summer Academy in Remscheid, Germany.

Our longtime friendship and professional collaboration has evolved into a refined teamwork that inspires and deepens the process for us and our participants. We are both guided by a profound commitment to creative work with a deep sense of humanity. We look forward to collaborating and sharing this vision with you in our Innovation & Renewal intensive this August.

The Expressive Arts Therapy program integrates a thorough education in theories and methods of psychotherapy with intensive training in expressive arts therapy. This three-year full-time program covers individual, group, couples, and family therapy, and includes a year-long practicum under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals who are also expressive arts therapists. The training meets the educational requirements for California's Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) license and is also designed to meet the educational requirements to become a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT) with the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA).
