EWP chair Jorge N. Ferrer and EWP alum Jacob H. Sherman co-edit the book, The Participatory Turn: Spirituality, Mysticism, Religious Studies (SUNY Press, 2008).

The anthology includes essays by the CIIS faculty members Robert McDermott and Sean Kelly, as well as by other renowned scholars from the field of Religious Studies, such as William Chittick, Lee Irwin, Donald Rothberg, William Barnard, and Beverly Lanzetta. EWP chair Jorge Ferrer was one of the six invited speakers at the VI Encounter of the Circle for Comparative Spiritual Studies, which this year focused on the topic of "Tradition: Change and Permanency. Professor Ferrer offered a keynote speech with the title of "Participatory Spirituality and the Future of Religion." The encounter took place in Avila, Spain, December 6-8.
