Renée Emunah, Ph.D., R.D.T./BCT (Board Certified Trainer in Drama Therapy) is a pioneer in the field of drama therapy; she was among the first four drama therapists to become officially registered in the U.S.  She is the author of the book, Acting for Real: Drama Therapy Process, Technique, and Performance (Routledge, Taylor and Francis, 1994), which is considered a classic in the field and has been translated into Chinese and Japanese.  She is also the co-editor of the book, Current Approaches in Drama Therapy 2nd edition (Charles Thomas, 2009, with David Johnson), and the author of numerous articles and chapters on drama therapy.  She was the 4th president of the National Association for Drama Therapy, and served for many years on the editorial board of the international journal Arts in Psychotherapy.  Her doctorate is in Clinical Psychology; her earlier educational work (and MA) combined psychology and theatre, and also included a certificate program in drama therapy from Sesame Institute in London.  Dr. Emunah's clinical work has included drama therapy with: emotionally disturbed adults and at-risk adolescents in psychiatric institutions; young children in foster care; and individuals in a private practice setting.  In 1996, she was honored with the North American Drama Therapy Association Gertrud Schettner Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Drama Therapy.  Within the field of drama therapy she is the originator of the Integrative Five Phase Model (of drama therapy) as well as the form, Self-Revelatory Performance.  She has been a keynote speaker at the North American Drama Therapy Association conference, as well as at conferences in Hong Kong and Japan, and has conducted workshops and trainings internationally.
