Sherry Raley, PhD

Sherry Raley, PhD, core faculty in the Expressive Arts Therapy Program, received a doctorate in Transpersonal Psychology and an MA in Counseling Psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, Palo Alto, CA.  She also holds an MS in Music Therapy from Radford University. Sherry has worked in mental health since 1989, including direct care work in group homes serving adults with developmental and mental health challenges, and as a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) in psychiatric hospitals.

She has a private practice as a music therapy and expressive arts centered clinical psychologist where she sees individuals, couples, and families.

Sherry also has extensive experience leading inpatient and outpatient verbal psychotherapy and expressive arts psychotherapy groups. She is a credentialed therapist in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music, a depth psychotherapy that facilitates emotional, spiritual, and psychological healing by using music to engage the various layers of human consciousness.

Sherry’s other areas of interest and publications/presentations include diversity and cross-cultural issues, alternative family structures, and cultural uses of the arts. She is an active member of the American Music Therapy Association (Western Region), the American Music Therapy Association, and IEATA, and is a Fellow of the Association for Music and Imagery (FAMI).
