Adjunct Faculty in Expressive Arts Therapy
Gwen Sanders, MFT, ATR-BC, adjunct faculty in Expressive Arts Therapy is an Assistant Adjunct Professor and Senior Lecturer in the Art Therapy Psychology program at Notre Dame de Namur University where she is the Practicum Coordinator. She taught in the Post Masters Certificate Art Therapy program at UC Berkeley, extension. She is past president of the Northern California Art Therapy Association (NorCATA) from 1998-2000, served on the Board for 7 years helping to coordinate statewide art therapy conferences. In 1991 she developed the Art Therapy program for Seneca Center where she was the Coordinator and Supervisor for art therapists working within the agency for 19 years. She was a Clinical Supervisor in a variety of Seneca programs since 1999 and focused primarily on the Alameda county outpatient public school program in Oakland since 2002.
Gwen is a psychotherapist in private practice since 1996 and has extensive clinical experience. She has worked as: a therapist in day treatment programs with emotionally disturbed children and with chronic mentally ill adults; an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) counselor for the Post Office in Oakland and in private practice; an outpatient therapist in a clinic; a hospice and bereavement support counselor and an activity director with the elderly. Gwen provides supervision for interns and trainees (Art Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Marriage & Family Therapy, Social Work), and is a Consultant and trainer to non-profit agencies, schools and art organizations. Gwen has provided brief short term solution focused problem solving overseas as a Military Family Life Consultant (MFLC) for the Army since 2006 working with soldiers and their families. She is a CAMFT Certified Supervisor since 2003. Gwen has presented papers at both the state and national art therapy conferences.
