Brendan Collins

Brendan Collins is core faculty in the East-West Psychology and Integral Counseling Psychology programs and is co-director of the Chaudhuri Center for Contemplative Practice, Interreligious Dialogue and Social Justice. His areas of specialization include the relationship between psychology and Eastern and Western spiritual traditions, Jungian psychology, contemplative psychology, contemporary psychoanalysis, and the integral psychology of Sri Aurobindo, Mirra Alfassa and Haridas Chaudhuri.

He studied with Haridas Chaudhuri at the California Institute of Asian Studies, and earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology in a program developed by Carl Rogers at United States International University (1977). He was a postdoctoral fellow in psychoanalytic psychotherapy (1977-78) at Children's Hospital and Adult Medical Center, San Francisco and the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute, and completed a Master of Theological Studies degree at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, in 1995.

For twelve years he was a member of a Benedictine monastic community committed to interfaith and intermonastic dialogue, and was the founding editor of Monastic Studies, an international journal of monastic theology. He worked with Thomas Merton and Bede Griffiths, two pioneers of the East-West interreligious dialogue. Brendan is currently a lay associate of St. John's Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota and has a strong interest in the interface of psychology, religion, and the arts.
