You may wonder: "What is BAC Connect?" It's an opportunity to reconnect with your former cohort, forge new connections with other graduates and expand your network, and learn of career paths and passions!

Panelists

Christina Olague a Latina activist,  moved to the Bay Area from the Central Valley in the early 80's.  She was attracted to the cooler weather, art scene and tolerant attitudes of the Bay.  She lived in a farm laborer camp until the age of 15 and was inspired to act politically based on witnessing many injustices.  In 2004 she completed her BA at CIIS.  She served on the San Francisco City Planning Commission for 7 1/2 years and the Board of Supervisors for 1 year.  Recently she returned to CIIS as a student in the ICP program.  She continues to work in the community on issues related to economic and social justice.

Kathleen Casela has been an advocate for at-risk and homeless transitional age youth for over ten years. She currently resides in Sacramento and originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. Kathleen’s knowledge, expertise and personal lived experience as an emancipated foster youth has allowed her to utilize her voice in her commitment to making a positive change within the public systems. Kathleen also has experience in project management, coordination, facilitation, policy, advocacy and curriculum development. She has been a member of several committees both local and statewide including: Honoring Emancipate Youth, Transitional Youth Task Force, California Youth Connection, California Youth Empowerment Network and the Services Committee, a subcommittee of the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission. She is currently the Stigma and Discrimination Reduction Coordinator for the United Advocates for Children and Families working on a statewide mental health project with individual counties to raise awareness and address mental health stigma.

Home Nguye is an educator, leadership consultant and executive coach with experience working in diverse cultures and settings. He facilitates transformative learning and leadership retreats for corporate professionals and educators, integrating mind and body awareness practices with psychology and scholarly research.

As an adjunct faculty at Teachers College, Columbia University, he teaches courses on Self- Awareness Training, Mindfulness and Contemplative Practices for educators, therapists and leaders. In addition, he also conducts Personal Leadership & Career Fitness workshops for MBA students at Columbia Business School, and teaches on the Summer Principal’s Academy at Teacher’s College.

Bachelor's Degree Completion Program at CIIS

Serving adult learners who have completed the equivalent of the first two years of college, the CIIS bachelor's completion degree is designed to complement busy lifestyles. Since 2000, this program has graduated 68 percent of its students within one year of enrollment. The core curriculum in the School of Undergraduate Studies evolves each semester according to our students, faculty, contemporary culture and emerging scholarship. In the core curriculum, students work together in a cohort, or a group of peers over the three-semester sequence.
