EchoTheaterSuitcase (ETS) is again bringing the voices of veterans and non-veterans together in collective dialogue, shared learning and deep creative inquiry. This time the ensemble is working in conjunction with an exhibition of Veterans Book Project (VBP), a library co-authored by artist Monica Haller and dozens of people impacted by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Directed by Krista DeNio, the ETS performance ensemble includes CIIS students and Bay Area community members, both those with and without military experience. The work integrates stories and content from the lives of ensemble members, in addition to sharing text and images from the books. Designers Sara Kraft and Cory Neale bring the sound and visual installation to life!
The weekend will include ETS performances, conversations, discussions, and an exhibition walk-through with Monica Haller and VBP collaborators. Participants from both projects will be in discussion with local veterans' service experts and community members to explore the creative process, fostering dialogue between vets and civilians, and the impacts and legacies of military service and war.

EchoTheaterSuitcase, conceived and directed by Krista DeNio, is a contemporary performance training and development model that brings together mixed ensembles of veterans of war and military service with non-veteran civilians, to co-create site-specific, audience-interactive performance installations. ETS provides experiential performance exchanges for audiences and ensembles from wide ranging backgrounds, aiming to engage participants in complex, intimate, and specific dialogue about war, military life, and our personal histories. EchoTheaterSuitcase has a new website coming soon! Until then, LIKE us on Facebook!
Objects for Deployment: Veterans Book Project is a library of books authored collaboratively by artist Monica Haller and dozens of people who have been affected by, and have archives of, the current American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In their printed format, the books provide a place or "container" that slows down and materializes the great quantity of ephemeral image files that live on veterans' hard drives and in their heads. Each book re-deploys volatile images with the aim of rearticulating and refashioning memories. It stands both independent of and in concert with the larger collection.
