African American Songs as Spiritual Practice

with Linda Tillery

Since the mid 1990s, Linda Tillery has delved deeply into the diverse resources of African American roots music. They share with us the historic beginnings of Black music through Work Songs, Spirituals, Play Songs, Field Hollers, Moans and Ring Shouts. She calls this music "survival music". It has the power to heal because it is born of the most essential part of ourselves - the human Spirit! If you would like to learn the tradition of call and response, and the rhythms that drive this music and give it vitality, Linda Tillery will teach you how to approach singing with the ears, eyes and the heart.
