Job Title: Assistant or Associate Professor

The Somatic Psychology Program of the California Institute for Integral Studies announces a job opening for a full-time assistant or associate level professor beginning July 1, 2014 or in the Fall semester of 2014. Successful applicants will have extensive clinical experience in the practice of Somatic Psychology with a thorough theoretical grounding in the field, and an orientation to conscious pedagogy. Evidence of established research interest, cultural studies and community orientation will be enhancing. The duties of the position include teaching 18 units of the graduate courses described on the website; academic advising for students in the program; engaging in the annual selection process for new students; attending the weekly community and faculty meetings and the annual program retreat; attending and participating in faculty committees and Faculty Council; and attending the annual CIIS Faculty-Staff retreat.
The Somatic Psychology program is the first of three degree programs in the United States that are developing the foundations of both traditional and body-oriented approaches to psychotherapy. From its creation 30 years ago, it has served as a seedbed for the evolution of a now rapidly growing body of successful practitioners and scholars in the field. It now has a community of 80-100 students.
The program has a research program and a Clinic for Somatic Psychotherapy where students can earn practicum credits doing and learning body-oriented approaches to psychotherapy. It is one of the programs at CIIS that leads to the Master of Counseling Psychology degree and prepares students to be licensed marriage and family therapists in California.
- Counseling or psychotherapy licensure in the State of California.
- Earned doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology preferred, or master’s degree in counseling psychology or equivalent clinical education from an accredited university.
- Teaching experience at college level at regionally accredited institute of higher education
- Applicants with experience supervising clinical practicum are given priority.
- Experience in assessment.
- Experience in teaching cultures other than your own or in developing courses with learning outcomes that address culturally-sensitive counseling.
